When I got the thorougly weird idea that I wanted to become a triathlete in autumn 1991, I had absolutely no sporting background for it, but I was 20 years old, so it couldn’t be that hard. I had seen pictures of triathlon bikes, and I found them irresistibly cool; aerodynamic, light and comfortable — at the same time! I had to have one.

I could swim breaststroke well enough not to drown, I had always been riding my bike a lot, but running was something I had never done much of. So that’s where I started, while dreaming of swimming, cycling (on my super cool triathlon bike) and running.

The following spring I started racing.

And now, more than 25 years later, I’m still doing it.

More to follow…
